New results from the AERO Project on FPGA acceleration for homomorphic encryption were presented at ApplePies 2026 – Applications in Electronics Pervading Industry, Environment and Society, held in Bologna on September 10–11, with the paper “Towards FPGA Acceleration of CKKS in Microsoft SEAL: A Microkernel-Based Architectural Exploration.”
The work investigates dedicated FPGA microkernels for key CKKS arithmetic operations, including modular addition, modular multiplication, and Number Theoretic Transform operations, implemented on a Xilinx UltraScale+ FPGA.
Results show clock-cycle reductions of up to 84.9% compared with software-equivalent implementations, highlighting the potential of FPGA acceleration for homomorphic encryption workloads.
